ABOUT OUR BAKES

How many servings do you get from a cake or tart and what sizes do you offer?

We currently offer two sizes and only make double layer cakes and ring-form cakes. Our 23cm cake will serve at least 12 people and our generously-sized 27cm double layer cake will comfortably serve 16 people. Our 27cm ring form cake will comfortably serve 16 people depending on the size.

Our rich triple chocolate tart is 26cm in size and will comfortably serve 16 people.

Our triple chocolate brownies are cut into 24 portions.

How many biscuits do you get in a packet?

We supply our biscuits, biscotti, rusks and shortbread in generously-sized quantities – the weight per item is indicated on each product and ranges from 250g to 3Kg. Our decadent crunchies are packed in a 1Kg bag (40 squares).

Do you offer custom cakes and writing on cakes?

Unfortunately not.

Do you make birthday cakes and wedding cakes?

For birthday’s yes of course, our cakes have been invited to several birthday parties and celebrations!

While we do not specifically cater for weddings you can always adorn one of our delicious cakes for your special day.

What about food allergens?

While every attempt is made by The Baker Boy to identify ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction, and items containing eggs and nuts are specifically mentioned under our product descriptions, there is always a risk of cross contamination. In our bakery we use various types of flours (wheat/gluten), nuts and an array of dairy products including, but not limited to, butter, milk and cream. Due to the nature of our business we cannot guarantee a total absence of the above mentioned items in any of our products. Customers with any food allergies can contact us at info@thebakerboy.co.za to ascertain if our products will suit their specific needs. We will not assume any liability for any reactions from the items consumed or purchased from us, or items handled by customers with food allergies.

Do you offer gluten-free products?

Do your condiments also contain gluten?

Our condiments are gluten-free. Please note we are guided by the ingredient lists of core products we use.

Are your products Halaal Certified?

We are not Halaal certified, however most of our items are suitable for Halaal customers. Please familiarise yourself with the detailed descriptions on the product page/s.

Our Bacon and Cheese twisties are not suitable for Halaal customers.

Our Triple chocolate tart offers an optional liqueur ingredient for customers who wish to include it. This can certainly be made without, and is equally delicious either way.

What is your approach to Hygiene and Food Safety?

Our kitchen operates with the highest hygiene and food safety protocols to ensure that our facility is clean, disinfected and safe. We are serious about both personal and kitchen hygiene at all times.

CARING FOR YOUR PRODUCTS

How long will the cake or tart stay fresh for?

We advise our customers to consume our cakes or tarts within a week.

How long will the biscuits stay fresh for?

Our biscuits are best eaten within a few weeks if properly stored.

How should I store and serve your products?

Our cakes should be stored at room temperature in airtight containers to prevent them from drying out. During summer we recommend storing your cake in an airtight container in the fridge. For the best tasting experience, please remove your cake from the fridge an hour before serving it.

Our triple chocolate tart needs to be refrigerated. Please serve this straight from the fridge.

All our biscuits are supplied in heat-sealed packets. Once opened please store them in an airtight container to retain their freshness. Kindly recycle the used bags.

Brownies are best stored in an airtight container and served at room temperature. Should you wish to refrigerate them, please remove them from the fridge an hour prior to serving for them to come up to room temperature.

All our condiments need to be refrigerated.

Can I freeze your products?

We advise you not to freeze our bakes, cakes, tarts or brownies as we cannot guarantee how their freshness or texture will be affected. Our baked biscuits should never be frozen.

Our condiments are freshly made and supplied in glass bottles which are not suitable for freezing. We don’t recommend freezing our condiments even if decanted as freezing can affect their texture once defrosted.

Our Bacon and cheese twisties can be frozen in a double layer of cling film in an airtight container and re-heated in a 160°C oven until piping hot and bubbling.

ORDERING, DELIVERY & CANCELLATION

When should I place my order?

All online orders must be made at least 1 (one) week prior to your event taking place and planned delivery date. This is to plan our schedule and purchase the freshest ingredients to fulfil your order.

Please note: We do not keep stock, we prepare your order freshly once received and payment has cleared in our account. We reserve the right to limit quantities subject to our discretion.

Do you deliver and what is the cost?

Yes, your order will be owner delivered within the greater Johannesburg/Centurion/Pretoria area. We charge a flat fee of R100 irrespective of the size of your order to the same address.

During the checkout process we will confirm whether we deliver to your specific address within the Centurion/Pretoria area before you place an order.

We will contact you directly via email or phone to make arrangements for delivery or pickup should we not deliver to your area.

Please note: We do not deliver to areas in Gauteng outside of the eastern and western suburbs of Johannesburg (including Randburg and Sandton) and the eastern and western suburbs of Pretoria (including Centurion and Midrand).

We reserve the right to refuse delivery to areas that we deem dangerous or high risk. Should we establish that your delivery address falls within a high risk area, we will contact you to make alternative arrangements to meet in a convenient public area which we determine to be safe for delivery.

Do you keep stock ?

We do not hold stock of any kind at all, we prepare your order freshly once we receive your order. Our lead times is 7 days in order for us to plan and purchase the freshest ingredients and start preparing your order. This is to guarantee you receive your order in pristine condition and freshly prepared.

Do you accept cash on delivery?

No, all orders must be placed through our online store and paid for in full upfront via our integrated Yoco payment gateway (Mastercard and Visa).

Can I collect my order from you?

Yes you can. Should you choose to collect your order, we will contact you via email or phone to confirm arrangements, including a suitable time for collection. Our pickup location is situated in Centurion.

Do you have a physical shop where I can purchase your products?

We do not have a physical shop, we bake to order and only accept online orders.

Can I cancel or change my order?

We understand circumstances may change. If we have not incurred expenses for your order, we will fully refund you if you cancel within 72 hours of placing your order.

If you cancel after 72 hours and within a 4 day period of your expected delivery date, it is likely we will have already purchased ingredients for your order and will therefore charge a 10% cancellation fee to recoup our expenses.

If you need to change your order or reschedule, please let us know well in advance at info@thebakerboy.co.za and we will do our best to accommodate you, time permitting.

What happens when The Baker Boy cannot fulfil a fully paid order?

Should any unforeseeable events beyond our control occur – including but not limited to electricity interruptions, acts of God or any type of illness – prevent The Baker Boy from fulfilling any fully paid order as scheduled we will refund your payment, in full and without hesitation. If you choose to re-schedule your order, we will make suitable arrangements with you.

Why is the password enforced for a new account so long?

This is to help protect your personal data. A strong password makes it more difficult for a hacker to try use brute force attacks to access your account and personal information.
